Currency reference
All 166 ISO 4217 fiat codes, named aliases, input markers, fractional digits and live-rate caching.
Numlex converts 166 fiat currencies — ISO 4217 codes only, no cryptocurrencies
or precious metals. The code itself is the unit id, the display label and an
input alias; rates come from a live provider with USD as the fixed base.
This page lists every code, the named aliases, the input marker table, the fractional-digit exceptions that affect display only, and the caching rules that keep offline sheets usable without ever inventing a rate.
Catalog
- 166 ISO 4217 fiat codes; no cryptocurrencies and no precious metals. The set matches the open provider’s list.
- A code works as the unit identifier, the display label, and an input alias.
- The provider’s base currency is fixed:
USD. The app has no setting for choosing a different base.
Fractional digits
ISO 4217 defines how many fractional digits a currency conventionally shows. In Numlex this affects display only — underlying values are never rounded.
| Digits | Currencies |
|---|---|
| 0 | BIF, CLP, DJF, GNF, ISK, JPY, KMF, KRW, PYG, RWF, UGX, VND, VUV, XAF, XOF, XPF |
| 2 | all other codes |
| 3 | BHD, IQD, JOD, KWD, LYD, OMR, TND |
| 4 | CLF |
Input
Three ways to write money (see Money & rates for the full syntax):
- Currency markers from the table below.
- An ISO-code annotation next to the number:
100 USD. - A named alias from the table below, such as
100 Canadian dollar.
A code outside the catalog is an unknown unit. When an input has no marker in
the marker table, the display falls back to the code as a suffix
(600.00 CHF). The position of the symbol and the sign is a display setting.
Live rates
- Provider:
open.er-api.com— a free endpoint, no key, baseUSD. - The rate table refreshes hourly (3600-second interval).
- The last good rates are kept in an atomic file snapshot. Offline, or when a request fails, the app keeps working with the last cache — it never invents a rate.
Live results are dynamic by nature; see Privacy & network for what is sent.
